Step 1

You'll need about 30/40 aluminuim cans (more or less depending how big you want this piece) old scissors, hammer, nail, fabric (big enough piece to back it) cotton and needle.

Step 2

First Cut the fabric to the size and dimensions you want the piece to be.

Step 3

The next stage is cutting out the main bit of metal from the cans.

Step 4

Now cut rectangles, about 4cm long 3cm wide (size can vary to your preference) then round the edges of the scales. Bigger scales are easier and less time consuming if you're making a big piece, however smaller pieces look better fyi.

Step 5

Once you've done this, bend the scales in half to give them a crease.

Step 6

Once this has been done, flatten out the scales again and sort into 3 piles of varying size, then punch holes on ether side of the crease at the top of each scale.

Step 7

Sew the scales onto the fabric piece START FROM THE BOTTOM in an overlapping pattern and thats it. if you want to sew a ribbon or something onto the top at the end to cover the visible bits feel free, however I just put a belt over it and that worked too. :)
