Elvish Crown #2
My sister and I are avid fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's books.
So we decided to make costumes for the release of The Hobbit,
The Desolation of Smaug... this is the crown I made for her.

Step 1
Begin with sketching your approximate pattern, I skipped a lot in this one because i'd practiced with my one first. Make sure you measure your head before you start so you can decide the lengths for your pattern. I used 18gauge for the main parts of the crown and 24gauge for the joins. (About 1mm and 0.5mm)
Step 2
Then I shaped the wire to the pattern, twisting the main part and making all the other seperate pieces. I decided to go simpler with this one because of our different costume styles.
Step 3
The next stage is beating the wire flat in some places to give the curves more shape. As I don't have an anvil, I settled with a hard piece of metal I found in our garage. I was quite pleased with the results.
Step 4
Now to put it all together. This crown was much easier than my one because there is only three pieces to put together. Again, I wound a smaller grade wire (24gauge) around the joins to hold them together.
