Ariel Cosplay Shell Crown

Ariel from Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' has always been one of my favourite disney princesses.

So of course, I had to make a cosplay of her :)

Step 1

Begin with sketching your approximate pattern, mine was quite messy as I changed it a lot as I was going. Collect a range of shells in vairous sizes, a large flat marble for the centre piece (or just a nice shell you like) and pearls, again in vairying sizes. You will also need an old headband for a base, or just go get a cheap one from the dollar store. :) You'll also need hot glue to stick it all together.

Step 2

First lay out a general assemble of how you might want to place your shells. Try have the largest in the centre and similar size/colour ones off to each side to make it appear balanced. Depending on the colour of your headband you may want to change it. (I spray-painted mine purple to match my ariel cosplay.)

Step 3

Then Glue these main shells on. If you chose a marble as your central piece, you may notice mine appears sparkly and cracked inside. I prefer this look in my stones as they look more chrystalised. To achieve this, simply bake the marbles at 180 degrees (celcius) for 20 mins then put straight into iced water to cool- You will hear them cracking. I find it better to do multiple at a time cause sometimes they crack completly, and some work out better than others, so working in bulk means you'll get the best ones.

Step 4

Now fill in the gaps with pearls and smaller shells, taipering off in size when you get to the sides of the crown. Depending on the stiffness of the headband you have, you may want to wiggle it and bend it a little as the glue dries a little so it still fits comfortably on your head.

Step 5 - Final              Product

Once everything's all glued on and dried, pick off all the stringy bits of hot glue and you're done.
